More on The Wedding

Both Fran and I are so happy that you will be attending Alexa and Thom’s Wedding! Whoo-hoo we can’t wait to see you again, meet some of you for the first time, and because so many of you are coming from out of town - to welcome you to Erie, a place where all the women are strong, the men are good looking, and our children are above average.

So here are some updates –

Time to arrive at the church: This is the most important part of this note. The wedding ceremony begins promptly at 4:30pm. Please plan on arriving at the church at 4:00pm and seated by no later than  4:15pm. For your Garmins or Navigators or GPS buddies use -

Assumption Greek Orthodox Church

Friday Night: Since so many of you are coming in from out of town, Fran and I thought that it might be nice to huddle in a friendly tavern the night before the big day. We are recommending The Brewerie, which is located at 13th and Peach in Erie’s uptown district.  The owner is Chris Sirianni and he has been very generous with his food specials and for one night only – will pour a beer dedicated to A&T. Kids of all ages are welcomed at the Brewerie. The Bridal party will be at the rehearsal ‘til about 6 and eating ‘til about 8 – we will join you somewhere around 8:30ish. The Brewerie is a beautifully renovated train station, and the Trackside outdoor seating upstairs is our favorite. See you there!

Things to do in Erie: The Casino at Presque Isle Downs now offers table games along with live horse racing and 4,000 slot machines. We have 13 miles of beaches on Presque Isle. There are a couple of boat rental joints on the bayfront – and one has jet skies and parachute boats. Upper Peach has great shopping and an indoor water park called Splash Lagoon. Our Zoo is to die for – it was just recognized by the state for its gardens. We have a great Art Museum, our children’s museum is a lot of fun and the Wolves will be in town. Erie also has five micro breweries. Please play safe and use sunscreen.

Can’t wait for next weekend!

Love, Tom and Fran

If you are in Erie on Friday Night please plan on joining us at the Brewerie at 7:00pm. There is great parking at 14th and Sassafras Street.

The Brewerie will pour a special brew for us and offer some specials on tasty snicky snacks.

Erie’s a tourist town and there are plenty of summer events happening the weekend of the wedding. The one that concerns us the most is “Roar on The Shore” – Pennsylvania’s biggest big-block engine motorcycle event. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday 35,000 bikers will be in Erie. Here is their web - http://www.roarontheshore.com/2010/Pages/Sponsors.html

What will mess us up with “Roar on The Shore” is that there will be street closings in the city that may confuse some visitors. They are:

· North Park Row

· South Park Row

· State Street from 4th to 7th Streets.

A Visitors Guide to getting around Erie

The town is served by 2 Interstates. I-79 is our North/South route. I-90 is our East/West route. This summer the Interstates are pretty much construction free.

Erie has an East/West bayfront connector called the Bayfront Parkway. This road runs from the northern most tip of I-79 and connects with I-90 well west of the city. The road offers plenty of lovely views of our bayfront.

The two main North/South routes in the city are Peach Street (one way heading north) and State Street (two way).

The streets immediately west of Peach and State are all named after trees.  They are Sassafras, Myrtle, Chestnut, Walnut, Cherry, Popular – you can remember the streets by singing “Sister Mary Clair West can’t pooh” or “Scissors may cut/will cut paper...” Both are great songs and we are surprised that no one suggested them for the wedding.

The reception is located among the tree streets.

The main East/West roads in the city are 12th Street and Route 5. Route 5 is a mix of 6th Street and 8th Street.

Erie is easy to get around. East/West Streets are all numbered. North South streets are named.
